Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin Meets with OPCW Director-General Sabrina Dallafior

On September 5, 2026, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin met with Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Sabrina Dallafior, who is currently visiting China.

Liu Bin stated that China supports the OPCW in playing a greater role in promoting global peace and development. China is willing to work with all parties to hold high the banner of multilateralism, advance the implementation of the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. China welcomes the Director-General’s participation in the OPCW Executive Council delegation’s on-site visit to learn about the destruction of Japanese abandoned chemical weapons in China. The early and thorough destruction of chemical weapons abandoned by Japan on the territory of China is an irrefutable historical responsibility of the Japanese side and a legal obligation that must be fulfilled under the Chemical Weapons Convention. China hopes that the OPCW will continue to earnestly fulfill its duties and step up its supervision of and constraints on the destruction process of chemical weapons abandoned by Japan.

Sabrina Dallafior commended China for its contributions to the cause of international arms control and non-proliferation, speaking highly of the important role China plays within the OPCW. She expressed her willingness to deepen cooperation with China to achieve new accomplishments in the various endeavors of the OPCW. The OPCW supports accelerating the destruction process of Japanese abandoned chemical weapons in China, with a view to realizing the goal of “a world free of chemical weapons” at an early date.
